Artistic Statement

As a dancer, choreographer, and artist, I am intrigued by the influence of emotions interplaying movement. I find myself exploring how emotions can be translated into movement, as well as how movement can invoke varying emotions within the dancer and viewer. Through this exploration, I investigate ways to incorporate gestural and pedestrian movements that are raw, simplistic, and bold. What piques my interest is culminating these bold, simplistic moments within vigorous movement, considering how I can intertwine the two to develop a story. Within my choreography, I often reflect upon personal experiences and work to embody the emotions buried within those memories. Furthermore, I also honor collaboration in that I work with my dancers and/ or co- choreographers to explore varying emotions, perspectives, and individualized experiences. I am fascinated by dance that tells a story; meaningful movement that invokes the emotions of dancers and viewers through bold statements and sequencing of a beginning, middle, and end. The combination of emotion and storytelling intrigues me in that viewers may all interpret movement differently based on personal connections, perspectives, and experiences. Within the art of dance, I enjoy viewing and making complex choreography that invites viewers to develop their own interpretations based on initial emotional reactions and personal experiences.
